How far is Zion from Sunshine Suites?
About a 50-minute drive, 41 miles from St. George to the south entrance via SR-9. Zion is the headline day trip: a free seasonal shuttle carries you into the canyon, and easy trails like Riverside Walk suit families. For the full breakdown of drive, 2026 fees, the shuttle, and the best easy hikes, see our guide to visiting Zion from St. George.
What can you do without leaving Santa Clara and St. George?
Plenty, even on a no-park day. Snow Canyon State Park, about 10 minutes out, has flat red-rock trails and climbable sand dunes that kids love. Tuacahn Amphitheatre stages outdoor musicals against a red-rock backdrop about 5 minutes away. Downtown St. George adds restaurants, splash pads, golf, and the dinosaur tracks at the Johnson Farm museum. And the resort’s own hot tubs and upper pool are heated year-round, with the lazy river running mid-February through Thanksgiving, so there’s always something a short walk from the door.
What’s good for families with young kids?
For little ones, keep it close: the resort water park and lazy river are the daily anchor, Snow Canyon’s sand dunes are a short, stroller-flexible adventure, and Zion’s paved Pa’rus and flat Riverside Walk trails work for small legs. Sand Hollow’s warm, calm reservoir is a half-day for older kids who want to swim. None of it requires a long car day from Santa Clara. See the home base on the home.
