Spring Break and Holiday Stays in Greater Zion

Home  /  Events › Spring Break & Holidays

Spring break is one of the best times to bring a group to Greater Zion. The desert is warming up, the national parks are in their pleasant shoulder season, and the resort hot tubs and upper pool are heated year-round, and the lazy river and slides are already running by spring break, so the kids can swim even on a cool March evening. Here is what to expect from the weather, why spring works for families, and how to plan a holiday stay.

The short version

  • When: spring break runs March into April
  • Weather: warm days, cool mornings, low rain
  • Pools: heated and running by spring break, swim even when cool
  • Parks: Zion and Snow Canyon in shoulder season
  • Book early: spring weekends fill fast

What is the weather like over spring break?

Warm and dry, getting warmer through the season. Here are the typical daytime highs so you can plan what to pack.

Why is spring break good for families here?

Three reasons. The weather is comfortable for hiking and being outside before the summer heat, the heated pools and lazy river mean swimming is on the table no matter the temperature, and Zion and Snow Canyon are far less crowded than in summer. A group can split the day between the parks and the resort without anyone overheating.

Are the pools open and warm in spring?

Yes. By spring break the full water complex is up and running, the hot tubs and upper pool are heated all year, and the Kid’s Cove lazy river and splash pad are about a hundred steps from the door. That is the difference between a spring trip where the kids swim every day and one where the pool sits unused. See the water features on the pools and hot tubs page.

When should you book a spring stay?

Early. Spring break and holiday weekends are among the most popular times to visit, and a whole home that sleeps twenty books up well in advance for those dates. If your school break or holiday is fixed, lock the house in as soon as you can. Our events calendar shows the other busy weekends to plan around.

What else is happening in spring?

Spring is peak season for the outdoors here, with wildflowers in Snow Canyon, comfortable hiking in Zion, and the seasonal Gunlock waterfalls if the winter was wet. See the day trips on things to do near Sunshine Suites.
