Getting to Sunshine Suites: Airports and Drive Times
Home / Plan Your Stay › Getting Here
Sunshine Suites is in Santa Clara, Utah, just west of St. George, and getting here is easier than people expect. The nearest airport is about 25 minutes away, but a lot of groups fly into Las Vegas for cheaper flights and drive up in about two hours. Here are the airport options, the drive times, and a few tips for the last stretch.
The short version
- Closest airport: St. George (SGU), about 25 minutes
- Most flights and cheapest: Las Vegas (LAS), about 2 hours
- Salt Lake City (SLC): about 4 hours
- The Las Vegas drive is an easy interstate run up I-15
- Address: 2638 Resort Dr. #95, Santa Clara, UT 84765
What is the closest airport to Santa Clara?
St. George Regional Airport (SGU) is the closest, about 25 minutes from the house, and for many groups it is the easiest way in. It is a small, easy airport with a growing list of direct flights to hubs like Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City, so if the schedule and fare work it saves you hours. The trade-off is that flights are fewer and can cost more than the big-city option. That option is Harry Reid International in Las Vegas (LAS), roughly two hours away on an easy interstate run, with far more flights and usually the lowest fares, which is why a lot of our larger groups fly there and split a couple of rental vans. Salt Lake City (SLC) is the third choice at about four hours, handy for guests already coming from the north. Here is how the three compare.
| Airport | Code | Drive to the house | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| St. George Regional | SGU | ~25 minutes | Closest, fewer flights |
| Harry Reid, Las Vegas | LAS | ~2 hours | Most flights, lowest fares |
| Salt Lake City | SLC | ~4 hours | Northern arrivals |
Should we fly into Las Vegas instead?
Plenty of groups do. Las Vegas has far more flights and usually the cheapest fares, and the drive to the house is a straight, easy two hours up Interstate 15. For a big group splitting a couple of rental vans, flying into Las Vegas often saves enough to be worth the extra driving, which is the route most of our larger groups take. It also means you can stock up on groceries on the way out of the city.
How long is the drive from Las Vegas?
About two hours, almost all of it on I-15. The drive is scenic, cutting through the Virgin River Gorge just before you reach St. George. There are gas and food stops along the way, so it is an easy run even after a flight; we check UDOT road conditions in winter before sending guests through the Gorge.
Do we need a rental car?
Yes, plan on it. The attractions here are spread out, from Zion to Snow Canyon to Tuacahn, and there is no transit that connects them. For a big group, one or two rental vans or SUVs is the way to go, and there is parking at the home. Once you are at the house, the resort water park is a walk away, so the cars get a rest on pool days.
